Toggle this category The Tester 3 Premieres Tomorrow, Santa Monica Studio Job Up For Grabs

Posted By:  The End @ Today, 03:21 AM

Tester

The third season of The Tester, PlayStation Network’s exclusive reality series, launches tomorrow, February 7th! We’ve introduced the cast, panelists, and special guests you’ll see in season 3, and most importantly, the grand prize these lucky gamers will be competing to win: a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work as a Production Associate at one of Sony’s most well-respected game development facilities: Santa Monica Studio. To sweeten the deal, we’re also giving the winner a $5,000 signing bonus, 55” Sony Bravia 3D TV, PS3 system, and a 2012 Ford Focus Titanium.

The Tester SMS Tour

While the past two seasons of The Tester have offered the winners a chance to work as a game tester at Sony Computer Entertainment America, this season’s grand prize is an even more amazing opportunity than before — the battle to seize it will be fierce. This season’s winner will earn the chance to contribute on the studio’s next game and collaborate with some of most imaginative people working in the interactive medium.

To celebrate the season premiere, we’re throwing a Tester 3 party today, February 6th at the Vita Hill Social Club in Santa Monica (RSVP here)! Local cast members from every season will be in attendance including previous winners Will “Cyrus” Powers and Matthew “Gaymer” Brown. Host Meredith Molinari and SCEA’s own Brent Gocke will also be at the club. Arrive early and you can sign up for a PS Vita game tournament to challenge the cast members to win valuable PlayStation prizes. We’ll also be screening the entire season premiere episode that evening! And, the first 100 attendees will receive ‘The Tester 3’ logo t-shirts. Food and soft drinks will be provided, so show up early. Here is the information for the premiere party:

Date/Time
Monday, February 6, 2011 5:30-9pm

Location
Vita Hill Social Club
2803 Main St.
Santa Monica, CA 90405

We’ve also partnered with IGN.com’s Greg Miller (who also participates as a guest panelist this season) to deliver cast-off interviews each week following a contestant’s departure from the show on Podcast Beyond, one of IGN.com’s most popular PlayStation-themed podcasts. You can tune in each week on Thursday, starting February 9th, to hear our contestants talk about their participation this season, what they thought of the overall experience competing on the show, and living in the high-tech PlayStation Loft.

Starting tomorrow, there are a variety of ways this season to watch “The Tester 3”: Episodes go up every Tuesday afternoon on the PlayStation Store, but they’ll also be streaming on thetester.com and on Crackle.com.Plus, like last season, fans can get together inside Theater 2 in PlayStation Home to watch together and participate in a season-long ‘Superfan’ viewing Quest to obtain coveted virtual item rewards each week.

We’re all extremely proud of The Tester 3 and we can’t wait for you to check it out yourselves tomorrow! Be sure to check back here on the PlayStation.Blog every Tuesday for new updates on this season, as well as on our main site here.

Toggle this category Army Corps of Hell for PS Vita: A Taste of Multiplayer

Posted By:  The End @ Today, 10:00 AM

It’s not too often you see a game from Square Enix employ the use of death metal guitar, screamo vocals, and copious amounts of blood.

Army Corps of Hell brings a new level of action to PS Vita. After being defeated in battle, the King of Hell is burned down to a meager corpse, stripped of his powers, and banished from his throne. He uses the last of his strength to take command of a legion of weak-minded yet bloodthirsty goblins to reclaim his throne.

To annihilate the demons of Hell, you’ll control an army of up to 100 goblin soldiers with unique classes and abilities. In true Square Enix fashion, a new synthesis system lets you combine materials dropped by fallen foes to create new equipment for your troops. Customized equipment can change your goblin soldiers’ looks and upgrade the abilities. We’re making use of the various features of the PlayStation Vita and we’ve implemented ad-hoc multiplayer.

Check out the latest trailer above, which shows brutal ad-hoc (local multiplayer action with up to four players.)

The rear touchpad can be used to command your Goblins to play instruments—activating special properties. You can use this to revive your hero, rejuvenate your soldiers, and inspire your army to increase their strength! Skillful play is rewarded with substantial benefits and a greater edge against the demon horde.

Using these strategies and some help from friends, you can tackle even greater challenges and pillage the rarest loot in the game.

I’ve really enjoyed the theme of the game, and I’m really getting into the soundtrack. Watching the trailer has me aching for some Refused or Woundeep! I love that Square Enix is expanding our pool of titles with games like Army Corps of Hell. For more information and imagery for Army Corps of Hell, ‘Like’ us on Facebook.

Remember that recent big hit movie? …the one with the buildings that were all upside-down, catawampus, and kcabwards?… Yes exactly! THAT movie! Well, we knew from ModNation Racers: Road Trip’s inception (cough) our track creators wanted even more flexibility (and potential insanity) in their track creating process.

We delivered with new Track Studio features that allow you to literally turn the game on its head with full 360 degree rotatable props and the ability to mix-and-match track themes and props packs to your heart’s content.

ModNation Racers: Road Trip for Vita is only days away and it’s time to start thinking about your 1,000s upon 1,000s (upon 1,000s) of great new creations, and we can’t wait to see what you come up with! Over the next few weeks we will get you up to speed with a series of tutorials aimed to teach you all you’ll need to know to make those unbelievable Mods, Karts and Tracks come to life!

This Week’s Top Tracks: PROJECT TIMESHIP
This is what happens when a great group of creative people get together…

“At some point in the 21st century, modkind, with the help of a vastly superior AI, finally discovers the means to travel through time. The only problem is the actual method is a little complex, involving building a huge timeship that has the ability to travel the speed of light in order to slingshot around the sun and break through a wormhole that has been discovered across the other side of our galaxy. Some of ModNations’ most esteemed track creators have been granted passage on the maiden voyage and each has chosen one particular period of Earth’s history (past or future). Hold onto your space hats ladies and gentlemen, it’s going to be one heck of a ride!”
